Actress Anne Hathaway claims to have been shocked when she found out about her boyfriend Raffaello Follieri being arrested. The “Rachel Getting Married” star split from Follieri in June shortly before he was arrested on suspicion of conspiracy, wire fraud and money laundering in an alleged scam allowing him to purchase unwanted U.S. properties owned by the Catholic Church.

Hathaway found out and as she informed “W” magazine “As soon as I found out about the arrest, I had to get on a plane to Mexico to do a press tour for ‘Get Smart.’ And then I spent a week in shock at a friend’s house. … I just started to cry because I thought, I don’t have a life right now. And I haven’t for some time.”

Hathaway said it was her friends and fellow cast members that helped her get through this rough stage of her life.

As part of his plea, Follieri admitted misappropriating at least $2.4 million of investor money.
He could face anywhere from 4 to 20 years in prison.
